Enjoy a different Whitsunday experience and escape to the tropical refuge of the Conway Ranges. Conway State Forest contains lowland tropical rainforest remnants and picturesque rocky creeks. Part of the Whitsunday Great!Walk, the Kingfisher Circuit track weaves through giant strangler figs and tulip oaks decorated with basket ferns. As you relax by seasonal creeks, look for the brilliant blue flashes of Ulysses butterflies and listen for the squeak of grey fantail birds. Walk uphill past bright palm trees and return to the carpark on an old logging road.

Cedar Creek Falls

Located approximately 20 kilometres from Proserpine on Saltwater Creek Road, off Conway Beach Road is the picturesque Cedar Creek Falls. These waterfalls are spectacular in the wet season and offer a year-round natural swimming pool at the base of the falls. They are set in a natural rock amphitheatre. The flora and fauna will amaze you, particularly the strangler figs, red and white cedars and wild orchids. There are also bush walks up and around the falls. Majestic Alexandra Palms line the creek as it continues its journey to the ocean.

Peter Faust Dam

Tucked away just 30 minutes inland from Proserpine is Peter Faust Dam. It's an ideal spot for water sports and an even better location for freshwater fishing with the prospect of landing a prized Barramundi - the prince of freshwater catches. A combination of tropical climate with long summers and mild winters, a very active fish stocking group, and the submerged branches and structure surrounding the lake, make it the ideal spot for Barramundi and you may even catch your first metre-plus Barra!
